The Center for Operator Performance (COP) announces that HollyFrontier Corporation joined the COP and will have a representative serving on the board of directors. As their initial project, HollyFrontier is championing an investigation into the best process for training new operators. This will initially entail defining the state of the industry regarding field operator training, with later expansion into tools to enhance learning for the next generation of operators.
HollyFrontier is an independent petroleum refiner in the United States with operations throughout the mid-continent, southwestern and Rocky Mountain regions. Subsidiaries of HollyFrontier produce and market gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, asphalt, heavy products and specialty lubricant products. Additionally, HollyFrontier’s wholly-owned, indirect subsidiary Petro-Canada Lubricants Inc. owns a Mississauga, Ontario facility that reportedly produces 15,600 barrels per day of base oils and other specialized lubricant products.
The Center for Operator Performance is a collaboration of operating companies and distributed control system (DCS) suppliers that conduct research focused on ways to improve operator performance. Operating companies include: Chevron (ChevronPhillips), Koch Industries (Flint Hills Resources, Invista Chemical, Georgia Pacific), HollyFrontier, CITGO, and NOVA Chemicals (Borealis). The DCS suppliers are Emerson and Yokogawa (KBC). The Center is based at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio with support from Beville Engineering.
