First Field Device Verified Using New HART 7 Test Specifications

Nov. 3, 2008
The HART Communication Foundation (HCF) has registered the first field device verified using the approved HART 7 Test Specification.

The HART Communication Foundation (HCF) has registered the first field device verified using the approved HART 7 Test Specification. The Hoffer Flow Controls HRT1 Rate Indicator/Totalizer has been verified by the Foundation to successfully meet the HART 7 Protocol standard and now carries the “HART Registered” mark.

“The Foundation defines test and registration requirements for all HART-enabled devices. This rigorous registration and testing process verifies compliance with the HART Protocol Specifications,” says Ed Ladd, HCF director of technology programs. “This is the only way for a manufacturer to obtain a ‘HART Registered’ certificate and users can be confident that a device carrying this mark is verified and registered with the Foundation.”

Using the HART Protocol test tools, suppliers test their device to verify conformance and then submit the test data, documentation and the device to the Foundation. The HCF conducts comprehensive, independent testing to verify compliance to the HART Protocol Specification. This process also verifies interoperability between different device suppliers.

The Hoffer Flow Controls HRT1 is a loop powered indicator that accepts inputs from pulse generating devices including flowmeters, tachometers, etc., and includes support for linearization, alarms and a non-resettable grand totalizer. By incorporating HART 7 technology, the HRT1 provides an upgrade and migration path to WirelessHART communication for future product enhancement.

The HART Communication Foundation is an international, not-for-profit, membership organization supported by more than 200 companies worldwide.

The HART Communication Protocol is a communication technology for intelligent process measurement and control field devices and systems with more than 26 million devices installed worldwide.
