FEMA Releases Planning Guide For Chemical Incident Response

FEMA publishes “Key Planning Factors and Considerations for Response to and Recovery from a Chemical Incident” for response and recovery planners.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) issues a guide for response and recovery planners at all levels of government, according to an article from Homeland Security Today. FEMA’s “Key Planning Factors and Considerations for Response and Recovery from a Chemical Incident” is aimed at planning for a coordinated response and recovery effort involving regional, state, local, tribal and territorial authorities.

The publication includes strategic and operational issues for consideration when developing response and recovery plans for a chemical incident that may cause harm to people, animals and/or the environment due to chemical exposure or contamination. Responses may also be issued in response to potential hazardous discharges that have not yet occurred. The document reportedly provides key insights necessary to inform a successful response.
