The Alliance to End Plastic Waste (the Alliance), an international non-profit organization, announces a request for proposals (RFP) for projects that capture the economic value of plastic waste. Submissions must demonstrate large and scalable impact that will help create new market demand and improve the quality for recycled plastic. As the need for action is urgent, the organization says it is prioritizing proposals that can reach full-scale operational capacity within three years or less.
As part of the Alliance's mission, it reportedly aims to identify, accelerate and scale solutions to help end plastic waste in the environment. Today, $80–120 billion worth of plastic packaging material value is lost to the economy every year, according to the Alliance. This represents value that can be reclaimed through recycling, which in turn can contribute to increasing collection and preventing plastic waste from leaking into the environment.
Proposals can be submitted by public or private entities, for-profit or not-for-profit organizations. The application period runs through July 31, 2021.
