Plants Can Improve Fire Safety In New Year

Occupational Health & Safety offers tips for preventing plant fires.

The new year offers manufacturing plants an opportunity to review and strengthen their fire safety protocols. There are more than 5,000 fires in manufacturing plants every year, according to an article from Occupational Health & Safety, which result in millions of dollars in property damage, hundreds of injuries and dozens of deaths.

OH&S recommends five actions facilities can take to prevent plant fires. These include training on fire safety by all employees, regular review of fire prevention practices and disciplinary action when required. Carelessness is reportedly the leading cause of non-residential fires. Other tips include keeping the plant clean and securing all electrical equipment, according to the article.
