Prince William foresees a decade of change ahead in order to repair the planet, according to an article from The Chemical Engineer, and he’s launched a new initiative to kickstart action toward that end. The Earthshot Prize, inspired by President John Kennedy’s “moonshot challenge” in the 1960s, reportedly seeks answers to today’s pressing environmental issues related to climate, energy, nature, biodiversity, oceans, air pollution and fresh water.
According to the article, the initiative will reward progress across all sectors of industry and is open to “individuals, teams or collaborations, including scientists, activities, businesses, cities and countries that make a substantial development or outstanding contribution to solving environmental challenges.” Specific details were not announced, however, a prize will reportedly be awarded to five winners per year over 10 years with the goal of developing at least 50 solutions to the world’s greatest problems by 2030.
