A NASA satellite found numerous unreported and significant man-made sources of toxic air pollution, according to an article from Nature World News. NASA scientists in partnership with Climate Change Canada identified 39 unreported sources emitting toxic sulfur dioxide, one of the six air pollutants regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
A satellite-based process allowed scientists to name the exact locations of the man-made emissions, an important step toward regulating and alleviating the sources. The identified sources are primarily power plants and gas and oil operations in Mexico, the Middle East and Russia, according to the article.
