American Chemistry Council Announces Responsible Care Awards

April 25, 2011
Total annual energy savings achieved by the winning projects was 14.8 trillion BTUs.

The American Chemistry Council honored 16 member companies for implementing energy-efficiency improvements in 2010 at its Responsible Care Conference and Expo April 17.

The companies combined saved a total of 14.8 trillion BTUs, enough to power all the homes in a city the size of Akron, Ohio, for one year, ACC reported.

The companies that received awards included Albemarle Corp., BASF Corp., Bayer Corp., Carus Corp., Dow Corning Corp., The Dow Chemical Co., DuPont, El Dorado Nitrogen L.P., ExxonMobil Chemical Co., Marathon Petroleum Co., Nalco, Occidental Chemical Corp., PPG Industries Inc., SABIC Innovative Plastics, Solutia Inc. and W.R. Grace & Co.

ACC presented a total of 41 awards to these companies, five of which were deemed programs of “exceptional merit.”

The award is given to companies with broad programs to achieve energy-efficiency improvements, including the creation of energy teams, goal setting, communications, management support and recognition.

Individual ACC member companies nominate specific projects for recognition under the award program. The judging committee that determined the winners includes selected members of ACC’s Energy Team.
