Lifetime Health Advisories for PFOA and PFOS will have implications for state and federal policies.
The American Chemistry Council is voicing concern over the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) revised Lifetime Health Advisories (LHAs) for PFOA and PFOS, filing a petition to challenge the measures in court. However, the organization says in a blog post that it is not alone in taking issue with the advisories and the science behind them, citing concerns voiced by the EPA’s Science Advisory Board (SAB).
The ACC also references statements from key policy makers and the water community challenging the advisories, including U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.), the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the Environmental Council of the States (ECOS) and the Water and Health Advisory Council. ACC says it supports the development of drinking water standards for PFAS based on the best available science and accepted practice for ensuring the scientific integrity of its process.
