The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is showing chemical manufacturers the way to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, according to an article from CE&N. In its recently released Industrial Decarbonization Roadmap, the DOE lays out four major pathways chemical makers can follow to cut their emissions and improve energy efficiency.
The recommendations include switching from fossil fuels to electricity to run process heating systems; using catalysts, advanced technologies and reactor systems to improve the performance of chemical reactions; using waste as fuel or feedstock and increasing the circularity of materials. The American Chemistry Council provided input to the DOE as it prepared the report, according to CE&N.
Many facilities handle dangerous processes and products on a daily basis. Keeping everything under control demands well-trained people working with the best equipment.
