AGs Balk At EPA’s Proposed “Environmental Justice” Rule

Twelve attorney generals say the regulation will increase energy costs.

A proposed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rule is drawing fire from 12 attorney generals who say the regulation will increase energy costs and jeopardize Americans’ safety, according to an article from The Center Square. The rule – “Accidental Release Prevention Requirements: Risk Management Programs under Clean Air Act; Safer Communities by Chemical Accident Prevention” – is an effort to revive an Obama-era “environmental justice” regulation and far exceeds the statutory authority of the EPA, contends Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.

In comments to the EPA, the attorney generals argue the proposed rule will impose burdensome new requirements without proven benefits, cripple the U.S. energy industry and create a national security risk. The commenting attorney generals are from Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Utah and Oklahoma.
