Chemical reaction causes flash fire and explosion.
A worker was injured in an explosion at Alfrebro LLC, located in southwest Ohio. The plant makes natural extracts and aroma chemicals. According to the Dayton Daily News, “a worker was injured at the plant while transferring the chemical acetal from one 55-gallon drum into another 55-gallon drum when a chemical reaction created a flash fire and explosion in one of the drums, which ruptured.”
A spokeswoman for parent company Archer Daniels Midland Co., said Alfrebro employees promptly extinguished the fire and as a precaution, they called for firefighters and evacuated the building.
