UK chemical maker Ineos, in a bid to help stop the spread of the coronavirus, plans to build two hand sanitizer factories in 10 days, according to an article from The Guardian. The company aims to produce one million bottles of hand sanitizer a month when the plants are operational and is reportedly in talks with the NHS to supply the products to hospitals at no charge.
According to The Guardian, Ineos is Europe’s largest producer of two of the main ingredients in hand sanitizer, isopropyl alcohol and ethanol. One of the planned new factories will reportedly be built at an existing Ineos site in the UK and the other will be built in Germany. The company has been planning for the new factories, according to The Guardian, by increasing alcohol production and receiving fast-tracked regulatory approvals.
