An explosion in a chemical hub in north-eastern Spain has caused an emergency response.
An explosion in a chemical hub in north-eastern Spain has killed one person in a nearby building and injured at least six others. One worker has been reported missing. Residents of Tarragona (70 miles southwest of Barcelona) are being asked to close their windows and refrain from going outside.
According to a news article from The Journal.ie, the cause of the blast at the Industrias Quimicas del Oxido de Etileno facility – which specializes in the production of ethylene oxide, glycol and propylene oxide – was not immediately known. Spain’s civil protection authority insisted that no toxic substances had been detected in the surrounding area.
