The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board urges the EPA and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to revise rules related to chemical safety.

The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) urges the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to revise and strengthen rules around chemical safety, according to an article from BLR.com. The CSB is reportedly calling for stricter environmental and occupational safety regulations to prevent reactive chemical incidents. BLR cites the explosion and fire at AB Specialty Silicones’ Waukegan, Illinois, facility and a fatal fire at the Evergreen Packaging Mill in Canton, North Carolina.

According to the article, CSB proposes the EPA revise its risk management plan (RMP) regulations, reiterating an earlier recommendation to the agency. The board also calls on the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to revise its process safety management (PSM) of highly hazardous chemicals standard.
