As of the beginning of April, an estimated 20% of the country’s chemical companies had incurred damage of some kind.
The chemical sector in Ukraine is struggling to survive under the ongoing impact of Russian military aggression, according to an article from Chemistry World. The Ukrainian Chemists Union (UCU) estimates that up to 20% of the country’s chemical companies had incurred damage of some kind as of the start of April.
The president of the UCU, Oleksii Holubov, is quoted as saying, “The vast majority [of firms] are not functioning, production lines are frozen, products have been sold or exported to safe regions.” He goes on to say that the industry’s main objective is to survive under critical conditions, save production facilities, minimize adverse environmental impacts and preserve the workforce. According to the article, some companies in safer regions are still operational albeit often with limited manufacturing capacity.
Many facilities handle dangerous processes and products on a daily basis. Keeping everything under control demands well-trained people working with the best equipment.
