While inventories in the chemical industry are on the rise, they have yet to reach their pre-pandemic levels due to supply chain issues and production disruptions, according to an article from Supply Chain Dive. The article cites a survey from the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD), which shows nearly 85% of distributors reporting an out-of-stock for at least one imported item over the last quarter.
Delays have also worsened, according to the article. The NACE survey reports 82% of distributors dealing with shipment delays of 11 days or more. The winter storm that hit Texas also knocked production offline for weeks and is further exacerbating the issues. Storm-related effects are reportedly expected to continue through the second half of the year.
