Dow Chemical, Chevron and ExxonMobil, among others, are really stepping up to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey, which has ravaged Houston and surrounding areas.
According to a press release from Dow, the company will donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, $100,000 to Team Rubicon and $200,000 to other local nonprofit organizations assisting the region. Texas is home to approximately 12,000 Dow employees and contractors. Dow has safely accounted for each of its employees, according to the company.
Chevron Corp. is making a $1 million contribution to the American Red Cross, according to its website. "As a business with deep ties to Texas and Houston, this donation will assist with the initial critical relief process,” said Jeff Shellebarger, president, Chevron North America Exploration and Production Co. “We will continue to work with responding organizations to support ongoing recovery efforts, which we hope can begin soon."
Exxon Mobil Corp. also donated $1 million for relief and recovery efforts in Houston and other Gulf Coast communities. ExxonMobil has more than 23,000 employees in Texas and Louisiana. “We will continue to assess needs and to assist government authorities and disaster relief agencies in providing critical goods and services to those in need,” said Darren W. Woods, ExxonMobil chairman and CEO.
