The Dow Chemical Company plans to complete a debottlenecking project at its Freeport, Texas facility to increase capacity for glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) in the second quarter of 2016. The wide use of GMA, a versatile monomer for specialty coatings and resins, has placed increased demand on the product, tightening the market, according to Dow.
“The extra capacity will expand our capability to help our customers develop high performance coatings that benefit from GMA’s dual acrylic and epoxy functionality,” says Kate Glasser, Dow global business director for Monomers.
GMA improves the quality and performance for automotive and powder coatings, radiation curable coatings, waterborne resins, industrial and protective finishes, appliance and hardware finishes, adhesives and plastic modifiers, according to the company.
