The Chemical Marketing and Economics group of the New York section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) will bestow “Leadership Awards” on six individuals on December 8th at the Yale Club in Manhattan.
“These awards recognize brilliant leaders in industry, finance and science involvement who are actively shaping the transformational role of chemistry as the central science that enhances our quality of life,” notes ACS President Diane Schmidt.
Recipients of the 2015 awards are:
• P. Roy Vagelos, chairman of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals and former chairman and CEO of Merck & Co.;
• Erik Fyrwald, president and CEO of Univar;
• Michael Fisch, CEO of American Securities;
• Scott Wolf, president of American Securities;
• Tracy Day, cofounder of the World Science Festival; and
• Brian Greene, cofounder of the World Science Festival.
Actor Alan Alda will speak at the presentation. He helped establish the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science at Stony Brook University, Stony Brook, N.Y.; he leads workshops there that use improvisational theater games to help scientists communicate more directly and personally.
