Clariant will expand its care chemicals facility in China’s Guangdong province to increase production of more sustainable ingredients for customers, including the personal care products market, and boost capacity for new products slated for 2024, the company said on Dec. 15.
The facility in Daya Bay, Huizhou, will become the first active pharmaceutical ingredient supplier in China to produce certified polyethylene glycol, according to the company. The site also will become a new global hub for Clariant’s health care business.
By expanding capacity for ethylene oxide derivatives and a broader chemical portfolio, Clariant will increase production of more sustainable ingredients that can help customers advance their environmental targets and create differentiated, more sustainable solutions to meet sector demands. This includes the EcoTain-labeled, plant- based Hostapon mild surfactant that the company supplies for personal care brands and formulators.
“The many market segments we serve from Daya Bay are evolving to reflect changing sustainability targets and end-product performance needs, and we want to bring our own innovation and expertise closer to these customers to help drive their developments forward,” Christian Vang, head of Clariant Care Chemicals, said in a prepared statement. “Daya Bay was home to Clariant’s first ethoxylation plant in Asia and, with these investments, we will advance this location to an integrated multipurpose plant/ethylene oxide derivatives site, with good proximity to key manufacturing locations. This underlines our commitment to bringing greater chemistry to the region to support our customers’ success.”
