At least nine people were killed and one injured in an explosion at a Chinese petrochemical plant on May 1. Local authorities also are searching for one missing.
The incident occurred in the morning on May 1 at the hydrogen peroxide production area of Luxi Chemical Group under Sinochem Holdings Corporation Ltd.
The Zhonghua Group plant is located in an industrial zone in the city of Liaocheng in the northern province of Shandong.
Previous reports of five found dead at the site rose when on-site staff discovered another four bodies during further search-and-rescue operations.
The zone’s management committee said in a notice Wednesday, May 3 that the injured was rushed to the hospital and the search continues for the missing person. The fire has been extinguished and an interdepartmental task force has been set up to investigate the cause of the blast, the committee said.
