Braskem has completed an expansion project to boost bio-based ethylene production by 30% at its Triunfo complex in Brazil, the company said on Monday.
In June, the company successfully increased capacity from 200,000 to 260,000 tons of bio-based ethylene per year at the facility in Rio Grande do Sul. The US$ 87 million investment aims to meet the growing global demand for sustainable products, Braskem said in a a news release.
Braskem's bio-based ethylene is made from sugarcane-based ethanol.
The initiative helps advance the company's goal to increase biopolymers production to 1 million tons by 2030 and to become carbon neutral by 2050. The recent increase in production capacity will remove approximately 185,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year, according to the company.
Braskem exports bio-based resins to more than 30 countries for use in various products, including packaging solutions, water bottles and industrial cables.
