Ludwigshafen, Germany-based BASF, a global producer of battery materials, and electric vehicle battery cell manufacturer SK On, Seoul, South Korea, have agreed to jointly evaluate collaboration opportunities focused on North America and Asia-Pacific. The collaboration will concentrate on business and product development capabilities to develop materials for lithium-ion batteries.
Initially, the two companies will focus on evaluating collaboration options for cathode active materials (CAM) production. Further details on the collaboration will be revealed at a later stage, said BASF in a press release. Additional collaboration opportunities along the battery materials value chain will be evaluated subsequently, including battery recycling.
