BASF has expanded its technical service capability to provide resin design optimization for its Lynx catalysts family. The model is based on correlations that use BASF's new Lynx 2010 HA and Lynx 2000 HC polypropylene catalysts for high-performance impact copolymer grades.
"BASF has mapped the process space that our customers use for polymer production. As a result, we can engineer or reverse engineer a customer's polymer design and process conditions to hit target resin properties required for specific applications and markets," says Thomas Keating, Global Marketing Manager, Polyolefin Catalysts.
In 2009, BASF introduced the Lynx 2000 polypropylene catalyst family, which features 20-30 micron particle sizes with products covering a broad range of resin properties. Lynx 2010 HA is a high-activity catalyst that provides operability across a broader range of isotacticity typically present in a resin producer's product portfolio.
BASF now offers more than 30 correlations, including impact performance, flexural modulus and rubber content/composition. The predictive model helps producers move from polymer properties to polymer composition and from polymer composition to process settings.
