Honeywell makes first sale of fiscal metering product

Sept. 20, 2005
Honeywell has made its first sale of MeterSuite, a new fiscal metering solution for oil and gas companies, to Shell Exploration and Production Co. The company will use MeterSuite to accurately as part of its technology to measure and document the amount of gas its North Cormorant platform in the North Sea imports from the Western Leg Pipeline. The contract also calls for Experion® Process Knowledge System (PKS) technology to help optimize operations on the platform. The project is slated for completion in Summer 2005. Introduced in the summer of 2004, MeterSuite accurately measures gas and liquid product flows between companies, making it easier to document and calculate appropriate tax payments. Unlike stand-alone metering systems, MeterSuite integrates with Honeywell and non-Honeywell distributed control systems. By integrating fiscal flow measurements and centralizing the calculations, data will be more accurate, more manageable and ultimately more transparent to operators, partners and regulatory authorities.  Integration with the Experion platform allows for advanced database maintenance, graphics building, trending, management reporting and Web-based intranet access. Together, MeterSuite and Experion feature digital I/O capabilities and integration with FOUNDATION* Fieldbus and HART.  MeterSuite includes calculations in accordance with relevant AGA and ISO standards. All types of fiscal meters can be interfaced, including orifice, turbine and ultrasonic. For the first time ever, these calculations also will run inside a general-purpose process controller, Honeywell's C200. "Honeywell is thrilled to continue its relationship with Shell Exploration and Production Co. by offering a new and unique solution that meets the company's very specific need to fiscally meter its gas," said Paul Orzeske, vice president of Europe, Middle East and Africa for Honeywell Process Solutions. "Our local resources, combined with the world-class technologies of MeterSuite and Experion, will help play a role in assisting the Shell North Cormorant platform overcome the challenge of fuel gas deficiency andto achieve its operational goals." MeterSuite was developed jointly by metering experts from Honeywell and Swinton Technology Ltd. The calculations have been tested and presented to the Department of Trade and Industry in the UK, which found the results to meet expectations. Honeywell's activities in metering include MeterSuite and the full turnkey delivery of an integrated solution. Honeywell plans to extend the solution's coverage to other EMEA markets in 2005. Shell Exploration and Production Co., a subsidiary of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group, is responsible for exploring, developing and producing oil and natural gas in the U.S. Based in Houston, Shell Exploration and Production Co. has key operating locations in South Texas, Wyoming and the Gulf of Mexico.
