Mitsubishi Chemical And Genomatica Form Partnership

May 5, 2011
Companies plan to develop sustainable chemicals in Asia.

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. and Genomatica formed a joint venture to develop sustainable chemicals in Asia, including the possible construction of the region’s first commercial Bio-BDO, Genomatica said April 28.

The companies signed a broad memorandum of understanding outlining possible areas of collaboration. The new plant would combine Genomatica’s direct, one-step technology with Mitsubishi’s expertise in BDO applications, manufacturing and sales, the companies said.

Under the agreement, the companies would develop additional green intermediate and basic chemicals.

Mitsubishi will join Genomatica in a plenary presentation at the BIO World Congress conference on May 11.
