Honeywell announced that its XNX Universal Gas Transmitter from Honeywell Analytics has been approved for use in a SIL 2 system by TUV Rheinland, a SIL certification agency.
The SIL 2 approval is based on a global Safety Management Standard established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) - IEC 61508.

XNX supports a range of gas sensing technologies and instrumentation for use in SIL 2 systems, including Honeywell Analytics' own Searchline Excel (open-path infrared), Searchpoint Optima (point infrared), MPD (multi-purpose detector with catalytic bead sensor) and 705HT (high-temperature catalytic bead sensor). Through its proprietary software and interoperability with all major industrial communications including HART, Foundation Fieldbus and Modbus, XNX universal gas transmitter offers advanced diagnostic capabilities that can reduce maintenance, equipment replacement, downtime and other operational expenses. XNX's diagnostic advantage comes from the unit's ability to predict random faults as well as systematic faults-a chief characteristic of SIL 2 approved systems.
