TCI Opens Specialty Oil Processing Plant In Canada

Aug. 1, 2011
Oilseed biorefinery and laboratory serves global clients.

Specialty crops producer Technology Crops International (TCI) recently opened its new oilseed processing facility at the company’s location in Prince Edward Island, Canada.

The new facility uses sustainable refining technologies to manufacture custom refined oils, the company said.  The pilot plant is co-located with laboratory facilities, allowing for analytical and evaluation capabilities and quality-control procedures.

The facility completes the first stage of TCI’s expansion in the region. The new plant allows the company to control the complete specialty crop supply chain -- from seed evaluation to delivery of the processed oil, TCI said.

The plant will produce Crambe and Meadowfoam oils, which can be used as a more environmentally friendly alternative to mineral oils in the chemical industry, the company said. The oils also provide a source of long-chain fatty acids.
